MTN Celebrates 10 Years of operations in South Sudan.

MTN South Sudan has launched its 10th anniversary celebration under the theme: “MTN@10 Growing Together”. The population of the Republic of South Sudan has walked this journey with us. Our Customers make us who we are and today we celebrate them. Today, MTN launches a mega promotion “MTN Ashara” to kick start the celebrations of our 10 year journey by giving back to our Customers as a gesture of gratitude. MTN South Sudan CEO Gordian Kyomukama said,” At MTN, it is our core belief that Everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life”.

Growing Together symbolizes MTN’s journey in South Sudan since 2011. “True to our Core belief, MTN never quit and indeed we continued to run our operation in South Sudan throughout the 10 years despite the challenges. We are proud of the progress we have made and continue to make as we connect the people of South Sudan and providing solutions to families, businesses, communities and the population at large. In one decade as MTN South Sudan, we have grown and innovated our business partnerships, served millions of customers and we can safely say that MTN is here to stay to serve the people of South Sudan.” Digital transformation is happening before our eyes and the Covid19 pandemic has been a catalyst to it. MTN is positioned to contribute and participate in the digital transformation of the African Continent and partner with nation states to drive meaningful socio-economic progress.

Speaking on the celebrations, Yolanda Cuba, on her maiden visit to South Sudan as the new MTN Group Vice President for South and East Africa Region notes that “MTN started operations back in 2011 with less than 40 staff, but today boasts of over 120,000 direct and indirect jobs in 2 years to people whose livelihood depend on the delivery of our services. In 3 years, we have invested over $85million and paid over SSP10.7 billion in taxes and fees. We are grateful for the opportunities we have had to deliver several first-of-kind projects over the past 10 years, the most recent one being the 4G technology in the country.” She further promised continued investment in the Network expansion to different parts of the country, connecting them to the rest of the world and bridging the digital divide.

The launch of the 10th anniversary celebrations was also graced by the outgoing MTN Group Vice President for South, East Africa & Ghana Region, Ebenezer Asante. On his part, he noted the role MTN has played and has to continue playing in the economic development and Digital transformation of South Sudan; at 29% mobile penetration, there is still more work to be done. The 10th anniversary celebrations will be kick-started with the MTN Ashara Mega Promotion and would be giving away 10 cars, 1 every two weeks. Speaking on the promotion, MTN South Sudan Chief Commercial Officer Saint Doe-Tamakloe said, “The MTN Ashara promotion is the biggest promotion in South Sudan in recent memory and is our gesture of gratitude to our customers.

Our customers make us who we are and their participation in this promotion is our way of celebrating them”. In addition to the 10 cars, the MTN Ashara promotion will also give out 10 motor bikes, MTN@10 giveaways like laptop bags, smart watches, headphones as well as Free Airtime and MTN Wala bundles. It features a TV commercial, radio, print and billboards Advertising; with an interactive digital campaign also launching this next week. The MTN Ashara starts from June 7th, 2021 and all recharges on MTN network above SSP 1,000 will qualify to enter the promotion. Kyomukama, on behalf of all MTN expressed “immense gratitude to the Government of South Sudan, our parent Ministry, our Regulator and the people of South Sudan for the support they have given and continue to give us and appreciate the partnership that we have created over the past 10 years.
